Moribayassa African Drumming Community Group 'Moribayassa Drummers'

Our community group run by volunteers, learn and play traditional African drumming rhythms. We play traditional West African rhythms on Djembe, a traditional African hand drum and also use Dun Duns, bass drums played with a stick. We also play a range of other African hand percussion instruments to enhance our rhythms and learn and sing African songs too, that traditionally are sung with the rhythms. Currently we meet at Christ Church (Hall) Stantonbury Campus, weekly on Mondays 7:30pm to  9:30pm September to July and in the open air around Milton Keynes for July and August . We celebrate diverse cultures whilst having fun and promoting social inclusion.  Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds and ages (11-70+).  Our group provides an invigorating, life-enhancing activity with physical, mental and emotional health benefits.

We are an open and welcoming group accessible to everyone as there is no need for any previous musical knowledge or ability to read music or text.

For several years we met as an informal group of people who shared a passion for African hand drumming. We formalised the group in 2011 in order to increase our membership and are now able to engage regular tutors to extend our repertoire.

In the past we were a predominately white female group, our membership has broadened to include young people, men and women, from our diverse community.  Although an amateur group, we are asked to play and give workshops at many local community and charity events. Please use our contact page for more information and to book us for your event.

Drums can be hired for the session and  can also be purchased at a discount.
